Defined by shape and color, the reductive paintings and drawings of Matthew Feyld explore the continuous flow of day-to-day forms. A discarded envelope, a wet bag on the street, or the shadow of a street sign; any of these things may act as a starting point for his deceptively simple geometries. At first glance mathematically precise, the canvases, painted over many times, reveal the hand of the artist. T
he interplay between precision and painterly expression contributes to the tension in Feyld’s compositions. Tension is also evident as positive and negative spaces mutually depend on one another, resulting in a visual tug-of-war where the elements of the composition are continually fighting for dominance.
Matthew Feyld is born in 1985 in Saskatchewan, Canada, he has been the subject of many solo and group exhibitions internationally. His work as been shown in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, England, The United States, Scotland, and Sweden. His work is also included in the collection of Statens Konstrad - Public Art Agency of Sweden. We are proud to show him for the first time in France. He lives and works in Montreal, Quebec.
