Plastic Expression -1981- Specialization Video department

Jacques Ristorcelli (alias Risto) studied at the National School of Fine Arts in Bourges. He lives and works in Aix-en-Provence.

Among the pioneers of video art in the early 1980s, he worked for Cahiers du Cinéma, and then attaches to the illustration in parallel to the multimedia realization.
Recognized artist, he exhibited his works in international galleries, particularly in Japan, where he has resided and been able to gain a deep knowledge of the Japanese art scene and Japanese cartoonists.
Regular guest of Comic Book Festivals, these works are published on by the " Editions Matières"..
He is represented in Japan by the gallery "Span Art Gallery" - Tokyo.
Faithful heir of pop art, the Bazooka group, companion of American artists like Raymond Pettibon track, Robert Longo and Richard Prince, Ristorcelli not only draws from existing images taken from comic books to pulp magazines, prints, popular images, personal photographs. He captured images, cuts, reframes, redraws the details, re-assembles by bonding, samples them ...
With these foreign images, often stereotyped, impersonal, Ristorcelli create a kind of inner theater; sometines refined, grotesque, violent and romantic. His blog is titled significantly "electric paper theater", in reference to "aukamishibai" (literally "paper theater"), this humble art of Japanese street storytellers, and the nickname that received at the time of their appearance television sets in Japan : "electric kamishibai".
