Presentation

Artist of an astonishing audacity, Murdie paints his fabrics as one engraves a wall: with voluptuousness, generosity and frenzy. Her pastel palette, which dares tangy oranges, candy pinks and hippie-chic mauves is unique in Aboriginal art. Born in 1934 in Rabbit Flat, Murdie Nampijinpa Morris never ceases to cherish her native lands in her painting, through the dream of the wild dog. It was not until she became a widow in 2012 that she left the community of Lajamanu to join that of Nyirripi located west of Yuendumu, in order to start an artistic career. Choosing a little-known storytelling, translating the pain she had of never being able to be a mother, and developing techniques and a little-used palette, she stands out from other artists in her region and quickly finds success. She is an artist who is building a solid international reputation because her unique, bright and daring style testifies to a freedom of expression.
