Presentation

Born in 1948, José-Xavier Polet is a Belgian artist. He has been living and working in Ales since 2001.

José-Xavier Polet studied journalism and social communication at Université Libre in Brussels. He has a passion for writing and visual arts, therefore he has written several books and articles on the underground and counterculture. Eventually, influenced by the work of Odette Collon, Gilbert Herreyns and Roger Somville, he decided to teach and dedicate himself to painting.

José-Xavier Polet has been doing abstract painting based on the same patterns since more than 20 years now: strokes, pace, accident and tracing destiny. Visually random works, however build on a thoughtful and well-reflected composition.
He doesn't need much to create his paintings but only three main colors which he dilutes and then mixes with ink. José-Xavier Polet sometimes adds collages to bring in more depth.

At the beginning of 2000's, he created the Art and Science society, with the aim of gathering artists and scientists around common discussions. In 2015, he founded the Front Populaire de Libération du Cerveau, a mix of utopia and fun anarchy.
