Born in 1947 - Belgium
Monique Bilcke is a Belgium artist born in the winter of 1947. Very soon it became apparent that she was particularly fond of painting. After her training as a painter at the Academy of Roeselare, she attended additional courses. One of those involved landscape painting at VASA in Oudenaarde.
Her studio is her second home. It's where she comes alive and gives her fantasy free rein.
Monique Bilcke makes decorative, figurative and abstract paintings. She likes working with a palette consisting mostly of grey tones she tries to enhance as well as counteract with striking nuances. Yet she also loves to paint in nature, which she considers an inexhaustible source of inspiration. The canvas then presents an often idiosyncratic and rather impressionistic image of what she sees and experiences. In her most recent works she focuses on imagery representing dynamism: life in the city, the hustle and bustle, the beauty and duality of our contemporary society.
She puts heart and soul into translating her fascination for it onto canvas.
