Presentation

Camille Kairis is a Belgian painter, born in 1932 in Theux, Belgium. She took lessons at the Marabout Editions engraving studio in Vervier. She also did a training at Ecole des Arts décoratifs in Verviers.

At the beginning of her artistic career, her favorite themes were cities, villages, portraits and literary subjects. Red and gray shades highlighted her work. But gradually, realistic and natural aspects have become much more refined and led her towards geometric abstraction, through composition and a contrast of colors. Due to a very personal style and a range of forms with limited effects, she portrays a vision of the current world, sometimes highlighting anxiety.

She does geometric abstraction on oil through discreet lyricism. Contrary to Mondrian, she uses all geometric shapes, including round ones. In a certain way, she is like Auguste Herbin's pupil. Her works are in large formats and triptych, which give the work a monumental aspect.

Camille Kairis is now 85 and still paints and exhibits regularly in Belgium and France, her first exhibition was in 1962.
