Jean-Louis Emond

Born in 1957 - Canada

BIOGRAPHY

Jean-Louis Emond was born in 1957 and lives in Montreal, where he also has his studio.

He has studied Fine Art at the UQAM and graduated in 1987. He has been a teacher and the director of the Saidye Bronfman School of Fine Arts in Montreal between 1997 and 2007, when the school closed.

Jean-Louis Emond likes to explore the possibilities of materials such as steel, bronze, wood and concrete in order to express his imaginary world. He transforms and reinterprets pieces of steel, rests of industrial processes, and pieces of metal. He uses industrial methods and technologies in order to obtain the shapes he has in mind.

?My research follows reflections and themes connected to the human condition. This reflection is in constant evolution. Shadow, light, transparencies, these are all part of my research in my painting as well as my sculpture practice. There is no limit between the two?, says the artist.
