Presentation

Geneviève Lapierre is a Canadian visual artist.

In 2005, she obtained her high school diploma in visual arts at the Laval University, after a diploma in visual arts at Cégep, Siante-Foy in 1999. In 2012 and 2014, she received the Première Ovation creation and production grant in visual arts, by the city of Quebec.

Her work took up a hybrid form, through the reflection of her characters. She mixed painting, editing, digital photography and staging.

The human figures she paints are broken down into abstract forms. They are like comedians in costumes or transvestites, interacting in an improbable theater. The body is used as an infinite flexible medium, creating unusual beings. It's a true staging, where her setting allows dialogue between characters.

In this phantasmagorical atmosphere, the textures and colors are transformed as well, they are magnified and set the tone. A universe which allows to free the characters physically and mentally. The artist tries to explore a link between tangible reality and an immaterial world, filled with abstractions.

Geneviève Lapierre has done several solo and group exhibitions, especially at Etabli,Québec in 2012. She also participated in the contemporary fair of Saint-Lambert in 2013 and 2014.
