Gao Zengli

Born in 1964 - China

Born in 1964, Gao Zengli lives and works in Paris since 1998. His work traces his visual and emotional experiences of his life in China. Each work can be defined as a dialogue between his own story and that of his country. A world that continues to confuse the antiquated traditions and contemporary events.

These artworks are reclining sculptures, paintings made with porcelain and oil. Symbol of ancient Chinese culture, porcelain is initially destroyed by the artist and assembled in pieces on the canvas. Then the paint and matter blend and become a common support between illusion and reality.

Gao Zengli creates a fragmented space between intimate and collective memories. He rebuilds a mosaic of his memory, in order to be able to remember.
