Presentation

Armand Boua was born in the Ivory coast in 1978. He works and lives in Abidjan.

For his paintings, his main focus are the left out children on the streets of Abidjan. Armand Boua wants to show the reality of their lives to everyone, often miserable but sometimes it's so moving that one has to look away. Boua paints the human condition and his brushes allow him to fight against inhumanity, which he observes around him on a daily basis.

Boua's portraits call out through their texture. The artist uses tarmac and acrylic, which he applies on carton boxes, which he finds here and there. Each painted layer is rubbed and scratched, so that one can perceive the essential and the essence of the shape.
The violent gestures and technique oppose the gentleness through which Boua depicts these characters.

His work is exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery in London during the « Pangaea II: New Art From Africa and Latin America » event.
