Stephan Lupino

An undeniable and iconoclastic icon of modern art, Stephan Lupino is a sculptor, painter and photographer from Croatia. During the 80's in New York, Stephan Lupino was the focal point of the buzzing artistic life, along with his camera, he focused on celebrities, especially Vortex (a New York cult club) and captured the essence of an era. These bygone days encouraged him to explore other artistic fields: painting, sculpture and drawing.

His photos combine desire with vulnerability, sensual desire with innocence, quest of redemption with its fall, performance intimacy with provocation, hedonism with destruction...These themes are expressed through subversive references of pop culture or religion and its rituals. Without euphemism, Stephan Lupino highlights body in its entirety. Eroticism is the main focus of his works. This is all an outcome of this relationship between Eros and Thanatos, harmony and chaos, beauty and ugliness...From Aphrodite the goddess to modern seducers, not to mention Cesar and Cleopatra or hermaphrodites, homosexuals, predators, models...nothing is toned down, nocturnal life (society) expresses itself through a transversal approach.
