Presentation

Joe Okitawonya Malandy is a Congolese painter who was born in 1978 in Kinshasa. After receiving scholarship funding, he was the first citizen of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to study at the Algiers Ecole supérieure des beaux-arts (Algiers Fine Art School).

Through his artistic works, Joe Okitawonya interprets painting as a sensitive individual who has the ability to convey a message, and through this perception has developed his pictorial theory of the G spot. "As painting is a practice requiring extraordinary sensibility, our gaze resting on a blank canvas is like that of a man in front of a nude woman, inspiring strong sensations and perceptions deep down inside us, which we obviously proceed to engage. Starting with this anxiety, I must then approach the issue of how to get to the G spot of my painting through the shapes that I give my subject and the warm or cool colours which suggest themselves", explains the artist.

Joe Okitawonya's works have been the subject of numerous exhibitions, in Algeria, Belgium and France.
