Luz Severino

Born in 1962 - Dominican Republic

BIOGRAPHY

Luz Severino was born in 1962 in the Dominican Republic and studied at the National School of Fine Arts in Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic) from 1986 to 1993. Previously she had studied civil engineering at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo, graduating in 1986.

She studied printmaking from 1986 to 1987 at the Art Students League in New York, and in 1988 with the Spanish Professor Juan Ramón Dura (Bogota, Colombia).

She works on canvas and on handmade paper. A great mastery of the techniques gives the strength of her unique pictorial universe. The colorful identity of her painting is deeply influenced by the Dominican culture and society.

In a neo-figurative gesture, the artist seems never to finish her work. Each corner is transformed into an endless canvas.
