Yomek

France  • 1974

Presentation

Fascinated by robots since childhood, Yomek is one of those fans who have never abandoned their youthful enthusiasm and who, quite the opposite, maintained their passion to live from it today.

In 1991, he began to make resin or vinyl models but also some "Garage Kit", directly imported from Japan. Yomek is a multifaceted hyperactive person, crazy about hiphop, who practiced many disciplines, from DJ-ing to BMX through ten years of graffiti (from 89 to 99).

After studying applied arts and learning at Penninghen art school, Yomek found his way in volumes, as a self-taught man in 1998. He became familiar with professional skills the following year when he joined the studio Bombyx-Attakus. He then educated himself in various workshops but remains one of this "new school" creators that develop very quickly their own recipes, techniques and tools.

His abundant experiences reinforced his savoir-faire and forged his working methods and his meticulousness. At Sabotage, he sculpted and built characters, sets and props for movies, commercials and music videos. With Bombyx-Attakus, he worked on derivatives for Marvel and on Winnie the Pooh for Euro Disney Resort. While with Images & Movements, he served as decorator-assistant for the famous french TV Show "Les Guignols", at Canal+. He also worked on sets for Jean-Pierre Jeunet movies or for Asterix and Belphegor, via Excalibur.

Widely admired for his talents, he is regularly contacted by artists to realize their volumes. We recently heard of him as a craftsman for having made several sculptures commands and in particular Alëxone's.

From now on, we will have to deal with the artist since he started presenting his own creations.

Robots and figurines' collector, Yomek is a devourer of Japanese culture, the influence of which on his work is real and assumed. However, he never tries making "Japanese-like." He creates new concepts and revisits classics but always imposing his own style.
We already saw a monumental sculpture, a robot of 1.80m, hidden at L'Attrape Rêve gallery.

Given his numerous projects, Koméla will definitely follow him and encourage him in his initiatives!
