Presentation

Jean-Michel Catto is a French artist, born in 1960. Initially a stonemason just like his ancestors, he also makes sculptures and does painting.

He is inspired by Bansky and Basquiay, not to mention Picasso. But his true muse is his wife. In fact he confessed: "People tell me I paint "Florences"! ". "I paint with pleasure as I have a great time", he adds.

His favorite technique is oil painting. Some of his works have a double meaning, like a hidden portrait in a landscape. He portrays the right and wrong, clear and obscure. Sometimes he makes "instinctive" sculptresses where he sculpts stone in front of the public.

His creations are an end result of his deep emotions, desires and rebellion. "Sometimes, it just has to come out", he says. "Painting or sculpting is private. All my creations tell a story but I let the visitors write them. They don't necessarily interpret the same thing as me. I look for instinct and the contradictory aspect.
