Pierre Galopin is an abstract painter, born in Cherbourg in 1984. He studied at the School of Fine Arts in Rennes and graduated in 2008. He currently lives and works in Rennes.
Pierre Galopin usually uses his own technique, and lets the result surprise him, as its spontaneous. He normally works on standard frames, on the ground and with varnish.= Firstly he applies a layer of oil varnish, and then a second layer of water varnish. The chemical reaction between the different elements is such that the artist has very little control on the final result, he can only anticipate and act accordingly. Thus, his collection of paintings haven't put down roots in a temporal sequence, but are elaborated a posteriori, according to the resemblances between the different creations. The materials have a life of their own, they act by themselves even after the artist has put in enough energy. Instead of mastering the result, Pierre Galopin masters his tools and constantly expands the range.
Pierre Galopin's studio is like a laboratory. The painter adopts an experimental approach, aiming to discover painting, test it out, to push it to the limit. The artist pays special attention to the expertise of the technique and not the result.
