Jacqueline Bilheran-Gaillard

A former student of the École Normale Supérieure de Fontenay, Jacqueline Bilheran-Gaillard is a philosophy associate. She has devoted herself entirely to her artistic activity for more than 12 years. “I started with painting, then I used photography a lot. My current work consists of paintings (mixed media) and sculpture-assemblages. The canvases are mixed techniques, which combine photographic report and painting (oil and / or acrylic), the sculptures are assemblages of various materials and objects, metal, cardboard, fabric, plastic, collages, paint and resin. I work in series, for paintings as well as for sculptures. The series of canvases accompany photographic work on industrial sites or waste storage areas. An imaginary of abandonment Fascination for the folds and the folds, the fantastic proximity of shapes and colors in the accumulation of waste, for the surprising architectures which result from the hazards of the accumulation, for the meaning, too, which arises of the unusual rapprochement created by folding, crushing, juxtaposition and superposition. These happy coincidences, I meet them in my photographs and I amplify them or provoke them by the constructions which I carry out from these photographs on my fabrics or by accumulation of materials and various objects of recovery in my sculptures. This waste of our society of abundance gives substance to my artistic concerns: I find less the pretext to stigmatize the waste and the rapid obsolescence of industrial products than the opportunity to reconnect with the great subjects of painting, beauty as a metamorphosis of the ugly or the trivial in the work of art, the poetry of abandoned things, the metaphysics of ruins.
