Born in 1988 - France
French visual artist Ut Barley Sugar, has shaped a universe inhabited by poetry, melancholy, joy and a certain sensuality, disturbing the one that follows her along her journey.
She works in a instinctive and emotional style, using her own photographs and images of daily life which are "revealed" to her and become the starting point of her creativity. She cuts, assembles, disassembles, deconstructs and recreates them. She has multiple influences: literary ones (Rimbaud, Breton, Dostoevsky, Shakespeare), cinematographic (Lynch, Jarmusch, Maddin) photographic (Sarah Moon, Daruis Khondji, Gregory Crewdson), or from visual arts (Crumb, Frida Kahlo, Paul Delvaux).
Ut Barley Sugar has founded a theater company “Le Collectif Les abattoirs” with actress, singer and dancer Moira Dalant and Alice de Coccola, actress, dancer and light technician.
