Thibault Martin (T'M)

T'M, whose real name is Thibault Martin, is a French painter / stencil artist born in 1982. (South Korea) Son of entrepreneurs in metallurgy, T'M grew up between the world of construction sites, with the scent of concrete and steel, and a fictitious universe, inspired by Comics, and 80's TV (Star Wars, Marvel super heroes, DC comics, Bioman, Goldorak…) At 15, T'M began vocational training in Applied Arts. (F12 Applied Arts), a period during which he was introduced to graffiti and tried all types of techniques and media: charcoal, pastels, watercolors, acrylic, oil, molding, sculpture, materialism…). But his preferred mode of expression remains drawing, more precisely drawing characters and costumes. Although his inspirations are multiple (Yslaire, Bilal, Duchamp, Warhold, Soulages, Pollock ...), his line is marked by the imprint of the readings of the comics of his childhood and the influence of his talented illustrators (Jim Lee, Frank Miller, Dave Gibbons ...). T'M moved to Paris at the age of 18, to pursue a specialization in Fashion styling at Atelier Chardon-Savard. Student by day, Graffiti artist by night. During its nocturnal escapades, on construction sites, and abandoned land, T'M finds its new inspirations in this more underground universe: Where some see rust, dirt, dripping oils and paints, T'M finds there an aesthetic expressed in the form of abstract materialist canvases. After completing his studies, T'M worked for different designers and fashion houses (Gucci, Sonia Rykiel, Chloé, Karl Lagerfeld…), alternating between his time-consuming passion for painting and his work. Finding it a shame not to exploit his skills as an illustrator, his relatives recommended a figurative series. A revelation and starting point for his current work on the theme of fictional icons of the 80s, T'M thus produced his first figurative paintings: a series of portraits of Iconic Super Heroes (Oil with a knife on canvas). For about fifteen years T'M produced different oils on Canvas, alternating between brush and knife techniques, before returning to Street Art techniques. He opened his Atellier, the T'M Studio in 2016. offering Pop, Iconic and iconic works from the 80s, affirming its resolutely Graff signature.
