Presentation

Mathilde Cabellec is a French artist, born in 1986 in Libreville, Gabon. She studied at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts in Paris in a painting and fresco studio.

Her drawing's organic convolutions are influenced by the landscapes and surfaces she reckons. She collects rock textures, plants and sections of walls in her sketchbook and uses them in her creative process. Of course, she mainly uses her sketches as a way to support an intimate memory through gesture.

Influenced by Gerhard Richter's work and especially by his series of clouds, she lays down her drawings on the paper and creates them with pencil and lead.

In 2009, she was awarded the first prize in drawing at the Académie des Beaux Arts de l'Institut de France Pierre David Weilland and was selected for an artist residency for six months in Kyoto, where she is studying traditional Japanese painting, Nihonga.
