Born in 1976 - France
When he was 15, Alexis left the small town of Dax where boredom was beginning to take over. He decided to go to Paris and follow his dreams. At first he lives in the suburbs, in Meaux, where he gets to know the graffiti scene.
After having obtained a painting CAP, he is accepted at the Duperré, an important Parisian school training artists, and the world of fashion opens to him. Paris opens its doors for his collages and graffiti.
After getting his DSAA, he worked for Lanvin for 3 years. But something was missing ... He decided to go to Canada and work as an artistic director for films and videos, as Chromeo had done. He finally discovers the little something which would help him find his freedom.
He quits everything and devotes himself to painting.
In Montreal, winters are long. He paints a lot but gets bored. He goes to New York and finally his career takes off. People from the Upper East Side start to buy his works and some galleries in Los Angeles show his paintings.
Alexis Dubois paints as he speaks, in his pop surreal acrylic works or in his neo-romantic watercolors. His paintings are emotional interpretations of some moments of his youth. They bring out skeletons that express the impermanence of things or children that express the lost innocence. The disenchantment of his troubled youth, or even his feelings towards the world appear from his neon or his dark colors; in general he searches for simple and effective effects and doesn?t stop to a color or a certain support.
In his new approach of the ink, he relies on instinctive transpositions that cause abstract or figurative accidents.
