Presentation

Born in Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, André Pharel is a French photographer.

This self-taught artist has been taking photos since his childhood years. When he was only 23, he won the annual competition of PHOTO magazine, which allowed him to display his work and meet Willy Ronis. He encouraged him to continue his passion simultaneously while teaching.

Since the 80's, André Pharel has given up black and white photography and opted for Cibachrome prints. He defines himself as a photographer or little landscapes, taking pictures of narrow places, giving them an immense look. He portrays magnanimity and beauty.

To create his poetic work, the artist is mainly inspired by the landscapes of his region, where water is the main focus of his work and is used to change our vision on material. The play on transparency and reflects are made possible due to his expert hand on light.

André Pharel offers a new look which is more primitive and less intellectualized, getting man closer to nature in order to rediscover immediate perceptions.
