Born in 1955 - France
Born in Cannes in 1955, Stern is the ganddaughter of painter and ceramic artist Louis Berger, one of Picasso's friends. When she was a child, their trips in the South of France made her aware of the light and colors of tat part of the country.
Her works, on which she applies think layers of color, reinvented nature, constructing the pictorial space through plays of colors. This research on the structure of landscape allowed her little by little to take distance from figuration and evolve towards a simpler painting, in which the subject is a pretext for the imagination.
A colorist before everything else, Stern "sculpts" space through layers of colors: sometimes they are think, other times more fluid and transparent. The balance gets built through different colored rhythms and grids. For her research on color, Stern uses various mediums: acrylic, oils, pigments, inks, gold lead.
Her paintings depict "inner landscapes", a world marked by silence, where everything is suggested to the viewer/ They reflect her life philosophy: "Everything in color".
