Presentation

Jacques Potron was born in Touraine, France. He grew up in the middle of nature and this proximity marked his art, which is informed by the richness of the shapes and colors of nature that he reinvents in his paintings, especially in his abstract figurative ones.

In the '70s he lived in Kabylia (Algeria) for five years and he was fascinated by the beauty of the nature, the intensity of the light and by the colors and traditional art of the country. Back in France, he studied visual arts in Tours and Paris. He is passionate about painting, poetry and music which he combines in audiovisual montages that he creates starting from his paintings.

He worked as a teacher and pursued his painting career in parallel. In his paintings, traumas and accidents of life are visible. The cheerful painting process becomes more introspective.

The series "chromatics and gestures" shows the importance he gives to gestures, to the act of painting. On canvas, the wounds, the scratches and scars of old wounds that cannot be deleted show the irreversible passing of time.
