Born in 1948 - France
Christian Bonnefoi was born in Salindre, France. He lives and works in Paris.
He studied at the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales and got his PhD in Art History form the Sorbonne University. His artistic approach is conceptual, informed by the theory of technique and tries to rethink the birth of the painting through a reflection upon the surface.
His theoretical approach relies on Russian constructivism and cubist collage, as he considers everything starts from a collage. Christian Bonnefoi is first theorist and then painter, and his painting goes hand in hand with his research and his thinking.
