BIOGRAPHY

Emmanuel Debarre is born in Sable d'Olonne in 1948, the sculptor lives and works in the North of Vendée. He has regularly been exhibiting since 1967, in France and abroad.

In 1965 he met Alberto Giacometti, a key event in his career as a sculptor. Debarre met Max Ernst in the Alphonse Chave gallery in Venice. He lived in Nantes, Nice and then Paris before getting settled in the north of Vendée.

Emmanuel Debarre never covers up the stone fully. He is more interested by the edges and borders. He is inspired by Baroque art and makes sculptures in Belgium black marble and blue granite from Brazil. He also uses contemporary materials like perspex. Black, blue and the transparent still remain the foundation of his work.
