Philippe Heurtaux

Born in 1960 - France

Philippe Heurtaux was born in 1960 in Saint-Maur-des-Fossées. He is a graduate of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and has studied at the Ecole Boulle in Paris.
He lives and works in Perpignan.

Philippe Heurtaux defines himself as a conceptual technocoloriste.

His first jobs took him on numerous trips: he has been a decorator for the first Duret monoskis with Pierre Poncet in Chamonix, of windsurfing boards for Marco Copello's Swell Expression, and took part in other projects - catamaran, Off-shores of FERRETI yacht, etc.

After having visited the whole of Japan, where he gets to know minimalism and the typography of Japanese characters, he stays in Australia for a while, attracted by the Aboriginal art that uses wood as a support. This experience makes him aware of the use of the materials in his works.

Sensitive to colors, beauty, the horizon, to flowers and naked bodies,he also travels to Polynesia where he discovers all these colors and lights that have inspired Gauguin and Matisse.
He stayed there for a few years, until the moment he got a serious illness. He takes months to recover.

He continues his journey with Los Angeles, for an exhibition. It is during this trip for the vernissage that he meets a childhood friend, an engineer working in the aerospace industry. This friend takes him on a visit of his factory and this is when Philippe has an idea: he decides to develop, with the help of engineers, a specific technique for coating, named GLOSS, a term borrowed from the beauty industry.
This new technique reveals the painting as a real gloss lip ; it sublimates the depth of the canvas to give a veritable 3D effect.

This technique requires a lot of specific conditions for its production: strict physical constraints, the control of a perfect hydrometry, temperature, time... All these operations are carried out in a special "workshop-laboratory".
