Ralph Samuel Grossmann

Born in 1968 - France

BIOGRAPHY

Ralph Samuel Grossmann was born in 1968. He is a French contemporary plastic photographer artist. After studying in the United States, he lived in Paris then in Berlin and today in Paris.

His works are series that are devoted to landscapes and his representation. Approaching the theme by photography, sculpture or drawing, he favors the observation devices that are diverted from their pure scientific logic and included reflexion on the impact of the science in our perception of nature.

His first series were presented in 2001 in New York by the Nikolai Fine Art Gallery and in 2005 in Paris by the Maisonneuve Gallery. It is this gallery that raised international public awareness in Paris and in divers art fairs (Liste Basel, 2006; Art Basel Miami 2007). He continues his activity in Berlin between 2008 and 2012.

The several series of Ralph Samuel Grossmann are echoing one another and imply for each a specific focus on one or another landscape's aspect and it's construction by the regard, technology and science. Among the series: the Monde Voilé, a project combining photography and sculpture (edition of a catalogue), the photography Biennale of Thessalonique (Topos, 2010 - Greece) (edition of a collective catalogue) the Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire, The French Institute of Mayence- Germany, the Sea Museum in Cannes, always with a monographic exhibition.

Developed in Berlin between 2010 and 1011, the Botanica/Lumières Diffractée series was exhibited in Berlin in 2010 at the Alfred Ehrhardt Fundation, then in Paris in 2012 by the Nathalie Béreau Gallery (Cutlog Fair). This series will be presented during the 2014 season of the cultural program of the Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire, being the second invitation of the artist by this institution.
