Born in 1950 - France
Najia Mehadji is a Franco-Moroccan artist, born in 1950 in France.
She spent her childhood and youth in France, where she studied visual arts and Art history at the Sorbonne University, before joining the Beaux-Arts in Paris.
Her work is a bridge between the French and Moroccan culture. Midway between abstraction and figuration, between organic and geometric, between Middle East and the West, Naja Mehadji offers a hybrid styled painting, which makes room for dialog.
Since the 80's, her work has earned fame and is presented in museums around the world, starting with Centre Pompidou in 2009, but also Institut du Monde Arabe in 2012.
