Presentation

Sébastien Le Guen is a graduate of the Villa Arson in Nice (class of 1996) and winner of the Villa Médicis Hors les Murs 2004 prize for his conceptual work on the geopolitical news of the time - Le Monde pansé -. Sébastien Le Guen works on canvas and paper by crossing lettering, drawing, painting, spray paint, stencil and collage. He stigmatizes these media with fragments of posters, objects, illustrations and heterogeneous elements, symbols of global popular culture. Close to “Bad” Painting, his painting borrows as much from trash culture as from surrealism, and from the Dada spirit. After having lived and worked between New York and Paris, since 2008, Sébastien Le Guen has set up his studio in Paris where he pursues research, started in New York, on very large format advertising posters. Since 1991, the works of Sébastien Le Guen have been presented in some thirty personal and group exhibitions in France and abroad (Germany, Chicago, Brussels). Two of his paintings were acquired by the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Geneva (MAMCO). His works have also entered some thirty private collections. Resident artist of Galerie Incognito, Paris / Monaco.
