Presentation

Pierre Blanchard began painting with Indian ink and graphite on white canvas. A passionate of contrasts and light, he decided to reverse the process and paint in white on black backgrounds. Then he discovered cyanotype, which allowed him to do negative painting on a glass plate, he put this under sunlight in order to develop.

The paintings of Pierre Blanchard are abstract, vibrant and enigmatic. They are made up of light and shadows, suggesting snowy landscapes or thundering waves depending on our imagination.

Pierre Blanchard handles his works like a tightrope walker. He paints blindly but is guided only through gesture. Then the tightrope walker wakes up, observes the lines, the movements and power. He patiently begins the work of rinsing and rubs colors on some areas, to give it a faded look and thereby the lower layers appear. He unveils his almost unreal refined landscapes which could have been painted by a Japanese master.
