This self-taught artist paints memories of his childhood and his youth in his pieces, elevating them to the rank of universal and timeless images. His talent lies in his mastery of color and his depiction of movement and speed.
While he hoped to live the American dream, he now prefers to concentrate on creating new painting techniques. His environment is the source of this new visions, since the artist decided to travel and impregnate himself with all the noise, movement and energy that is found in the town squares, the ports and railway stations.
Jean Fontan works particularly the material and color. He regularly uses pure pigments and mixed materials, mixing oil with silk, or paper with the help of a knife or the "shaper".
