Yannig Hedel was born on 15th July, 1948 in Saint Nazaire. After having practiced drawing for a long time, he bought a camera when he settled down in Lyon in 1971. He was familiar with this new tool, like a continuity of his graphic work.
Since 2000's, he slowly gave up film photography and took up a digital one. This change can partly be explained due to the artist's medical condition, as he was diagnosed sclerosis in 2005, and made it difficult for him to move around. The creative process of the artist evolved, his long walks in the search for precise topics were replaced by a constant urban exploration, re-worked through Photoshop. His "Suites cordouanes" were displayed in 2012, illustrating his new way of photography.
His works were publicly acclaimed by the Réattu museum of Arles, which bought many photos of the artist in 2002.
