Born in 1955 in France, Thierry Beyne graduated from Ecole supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris (in 1978). He came to Vietnam for the first time in 1997 and often came back to a land which was "full of greenery and smiles" to capture moments of the population's daily life.
In the 80's, Thierry Beyne left to discover Asia where his passion accentuated even further for traveling and photography. He traveled from India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore and of course Vietnam, his favorite. It's been almost 16 years since he has been going around the country and taking photos of the North and South, in the most remote areas. He is married to a Vietnamese lady from Hué. Thiery Beyne is in direct contact with the daily life and authenticity of the country. It is essential for him to be at the heart of the Vietnamese population.
He has been living in Nha Trang since 2010, he works for the “Amis du Vietnam” French NGO- “Children in danger" (AVEED). Their aim is to help Vietnamese children in difficulty.
In Paris, Thierry Beyne organized 12 personal exhibitions on several Asian countries, including Vietnam. Part of the proceeds of the photo sales were donated to organizations who took care of unprivileged Vietnamese children. In 1997 he was awarded the "Nikon International Photo Contest" and exhibited at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris.
"This is the result of my love for Vietnam. A portrayal of daily life which is at times difficult, however the Vietnamese people always have a smile on their faces, not to mention the greenery all around. I hope that this exhibition will help bring a new look on the evolution of the daily life in Vietnam, the one of a European photographer".
