Born in 1936 - France
Nicole Giroud was born on the 18th of December in 1936 in Belfort (Territoire-de-Belfort).
Nicole Giroud spent three years in the technique division of the Sèvres College to learn how to draw, before spending one year in the same college in Françoise Bizette's workshop to learn architectural ceramic. She then spent a year at the manufacture of Sèvres (where she will come back from 1984 to 1989 as an assistant to join the adventure of the research and creation workshop, under the direction of Georges Jeanclos).
In 1962, she settled in her workshop in Paris, rue de la Tombe-Issoire, where she carried out demanding and on-going researches: between 1965 and 1975 she realized monumental works as part of the 1%. Using sandstone, she cared about the geometry of the volumes. Then, during the 1970's, she adopted porcelain, she is mostly known for her suspended porcelain-textiles, that manage to erase the input of the hand to extract the matter form the weightless.
During the 1980's her ambition grew, she realized installations that showed a willingness to reveal the matter so that it expresses tensions and heartbreaks.
Since 1985, Nicole Giroud has adopted an artistic vocabulary: Drawing, bronze, latex, and paper. She doesn't tries to represent the nature but to translate the deep nature of the human being.
