Presentation

After spending a decade in the United States where she obtained her Bachelor of Fine Art from the San
Francisco Art Institute, Rachel Lévy came back in France in 1984.

After working as an independent photographer for a number of magazines while working on personal projects, she nowadays cultivates a true passion for plants. Flowers are her muses. By choosing flowers which are not in their prime, hydrangea cultivars and currently irises selected by Richard Cayeux, she explores with a quasi anthropological, resolutely modern approach the classic theme of botanical plants. Rachel Lévy has exhibited her work in several galleries in France and Europe including Jardins en Art.

‘I find an endless source of inspiration in this juxtaposition of science and art, which is the duality one finds in all plants. Whether it is about natural evolution or about the exciting but sometimes long and fastidious horticulturalist’s hybridisation work, one is always met with this juxtaposition. Irises provide a particularly good illustration of this mix between beautiful and peculiar, of purity and total extravagance.’
