Born in 1958 - France
Jean-Louis Sarrans has been a photographer for more than 30 years. In the last 10 years, his work has been intimate and essential: he tries to photograph and capture not only what is visible, but what he perceives of the relationship of humans and the world, from its creation to its probable disappearance.
Keeping his distance from the objectivity of a reporter, he captures, one by one and all over the world, these images that can translate his sensitive quest.
His photographs play on basic contradictions such as the juxtaposition of polar pack ice and urban debris, and suggest at the same time the unspeakable, from the beauty of things to the silence of Hiroshima or the terror of Auschwitz. This permanent confrontation between the Visible and the Senses questions the balance of our lives.
