Presentation

Igor Kubalek was born in 1966 in Olomouc, in the Czech Republic. He began to paint when he was very young and then studied at the School of Fine Arts in his hometown in 1974 until 1990. He then went to Paris to study at the School of Fine Arts there.

An admirer of the great masters of the Quattrocento and Cinquecento periods of the German Renaissance, he is also interested in the works of contemporaries such as Gerhardt Richter, Elisabeth Payton and Eric Fischl. His work is close to that of Jan Zrzavy, Emile Nolde, Lucien Freud, Otto Dix, Georges Rouault and Balthus.

His expression revolves around the neologism « Androidognosia » which he describes as his « desire to speak about man when many others only want to talk about ideas, concepts or dogmas ». His works are somewhere between abstract conceptual art and traditional figurative art which, according to him, are not incompatible and can be used to deliver a clear message. We find a great deal of portraits and especially family portraits in his works.
