Presentation

Born in 1972, CarCam was around 12 or 13 years old when he first held a camera in his hands. It was his father's Yashica, a pale imitation of Doisneau's Rolleiflex, certainly, but which gave him visual and tactile pleasures as he likes to describe them: "You look in the direction of your feet to see what is happening in front of you. by holding against you, like a fragile baby, the object which serves to capture the light! The attraction was more physical than emotional and, already passionate about painting at the time, he did not think anyway, that there could be other forms of art to express himself or to tell stories. . The artist was 20 when, in a department store, he opened a photo book and found himself face to face with "Le nu provençal" by a certain Willy Ronis ... Love at first sight, the passion was born! Without a penny on him, CarCam tears the page from the book and he goes discreetly with the object of his theft ... It took him almost 20 years before finding his "marks" in the vast field of photography . Color, black and white, street photography, portraits, landscapes, family photos, sports photos, he hasn't tried everything but almost. He also took photos only for a purpose that he describes as "food", not to supplement his ends of the month but to pay for the equipment which allowed him to satisfy his passion. It was in this context that he met the manager of a laboratory where he had photos of the weddings he was covering taken. They sympathized and it was this man who gave him the first real advice to improve his images: "Don't take photos to please others. SHOOT FOR YOU AND ONLY FOR YOU! If all the photographic rules that we learn in books disturb you to build your photo, don't take it into account. You SHOOT and that's it ". It took him years to realize that he was right ... Today, the only key word when he has the camera in his hand is: PLEASURE! He prefers "animated" photos because in his opinion, where there are men and women, there is life. You will quickly understand that CarCam is more comfortable with black and white without knowing how to explain precisely why when asked about this subject: “Maybe because I love contrast and black and white is there. lends itself better in my opinion, perhaps because I like to get straight to the point and the colors have an annoying tendency to distract us from the subject, perhaps for the timeless side that I like so much in monochrome images, can -to be also because the color brings us closer to reality and that I am not trying to represent THE world which scrolls before our eyes but MY world, the one which scrolls in my head… ”Surely for all these reasons at the same time. One last thing, even though his first photographic pleasures were material, CarCam doesn't say a word about who it uses to make its images, nor a word about the aperture, shutter speed and focal length of each. photography because, to tell the truth, he thinks that (almost) everyone doesn't care and that it's not these details that will make you like or hate his work. To support his reasoning, he shares with us a sentence from Willy Ronis thanks to whom CarCam entered, but also remained in the world of photography: "It's not the technique that makes the photo, it's the photographer".
