Presentation

During her teenage years, photography was for Emmanuelle Bousquet more of a game that helped her express herself. She starts to take pictures of the two women that are closest to her, her mother and her sister. She takes self portraits too. She feels that she is using her body in the same way painters use their own paintings.

She goes ?beyond the mirror?, and realizes a photo series of her, her mother and her sister, in black and white.

In 2004, she meets photographer Antoine d'Agata, who suggests that she concentrates on self-portrait in a simpler way, with the least possible elements that might suggest a connection to fashion or society. This way, her ageless style is born and it becomes the source of the raw truth that her images release. She isolates herself for weeks in a row in places that feel intimate to her and she creates her first self-portrait series, ?Troubles?.

After this series, she continues to work on this approach by developing her work on femininity seen from the perspective of the evolution of her body. Drawing inspiration from the advice of Antoine d'Agata, Emmanuelle was able to develop more aesthetic and symbolic notions that informed her work and a way of staging her images that deeply marked her style.
