Mathieu Renault, is a young artist born in 1982, he did several book related trainings in Paris, during which he had the opportunity to make frescoes. However his artistic training really began when he joined a school of fine arts during his trip to Latin America.
5 years ago, Mathieu Renault began working on the topic of lacerated posters. Unlike collage or other stuck paper compositions, it is a work on the thickness. In the streets, the posters are stuck one over the other, the artist seeks to reveal what lies under each one of these layers of paper and give a new meaning to the image, digging blindly in the support.
He compares his practice of tearing off to the eternal quest of man of rewriting his daily life and his constant need to keep moving. The lacerating is another way for the artist to reveal the secret identity, poetic and collective of our modern society.
