Presentation

Jean-Louis Plessis is born in 1955 in Paris. He traveled a lot and spent several years in Turin in Italy, before getting settled in Mallorca at the end of 70's.

A fan of "his" island, photography and architecture, he prepares his snapshots like a true artisan. He chooses his subject, waits for the right moment which brings him shade, light and contours of a real picture which is graphic and poetic. Jean-Louis Plessis doesn't treat human subjects, like the Indians believed, as he doesn't want to "steal their soul".

He has kept his first camera, a Rolleiflex and regularly works with Swiss Arca 9x12. His masters are American, Edward Weston(1886-1958), expert at "pure photography" and Wynn Bullock (1902-1975), one of the greatest American photographers during the 50's and 60's.

Jean-Louis Plessis develops his own photos and all the prints are in Selenium on Baryta Ilford or Berger. He uses a LPL4X5 magnifier in his laboratory, located in the South of the island. His work needs time, reflection and long hours to prepare, contrary to current techniques.

He exhibits in Mallorca and Soain. His last exhibition was at the Salon de la photographie contemporaine in June 2015 in Paris.
