The name 'Captain Fluo' reflects the originality of this passionate and atypical artist, who has been practicing photography since the early 1980s. As the first wave of Street Art was introduced into the contemporary art scene, Captain Fluo met his future sidekick, Speedy Graphito, an urban artist adept at stencils, and founded together the group 'X-Moulinex'. The team quickly dissolved and the Captain pursued his own route. A deputy art director for the magazine “Phenomene” from 1985 to 1986, he has created artistic performances in Paris at Galeries Lafayette and the Contemporary International Art Fair, at gallery M in Berlin, and most recently in the contemporary art fairs throughout Northern Europe. He also collaborated with the newspaper “Le Monde” from 2000 to 2005, where his photos illustrated numerous articles.
Captain Fluo explores themes of vanity and westerns in his works, in an atmosphere that combines poetry and humor with an always moving spirit. The audience meets in these creations the skull of a fairy (“Les jolies colonies de vacances”), a penguin accompanying a pig (“Ça Mexique beaucoup”), or an alien made of garlic cloves (“Ail ail ail, alien”). Whether they are rational or extravagant, the photographs of Captain Fluo take us into an authentic and powerful universe, in which imagination and derision are the keywords.
