Dominique Labauve was born in Strasbourg in 1948, where he studied literature, philosophy and art history. He left his hometown to study sculpture with Etienne Martin in Paris in 1969. He stayed fifteen years at the Maeght gallery, which organized personal and collective exhibitions for him. He received the prize from the Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation in New York in 2009 and the prize from the new Tampa Museum of Art, which organized the exhibition “Musical lines in my hand” for him. His sculptures on a human scale question the link between the work and the medium, the metal lines float in the air like a calligraphy. He seeks to put an action on hold, as if to capture a memory at a precise moment. His work is exhibited at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs and at the FRAC (Regional Contemporary Art Fund) in Ile-de-France.
