Presentation

Jean-Pierre Bertaux-Marais is a French artist born in 1936. He first joined the Merchant Navy School in Nantes, which allowed him to travel several times around the world. But his passion for painting made him give up his naval career and in 1960 he decided to join the School of Fine Arts of Paris.

He remained the privileged painter of the sea- his main source of inspiration being the Breton coast with its humid and veiled tonalities. However, Provence and the Greek Islands, with their dazzling brigthness and the transparency of its Mediterranean waters, attract him as well and allow him to express all his sensibility.

His compositions of refined colors are balanced and full of symbols and rhythm thanks to their incisive graphism. A painter of poetic reality, Jean-Pierre Bertaux-Marais invite us to share with him the emotions he experiences during his imaginary or real journeys.
