Presentation

Jean Toth is a French artist born in 1987 and died in Paris in 1972.

He left Hungary at the age of nineteen to learn painting and arrived in France at the age of twenty-two, where he studied at the Academy la Grande Chaumière.

A painter and draftsman at the same time, it was while watching the Indian artist Nyota-Inyoka dance that his passion for dance was born and that he did his first sketches about this subject which remained his favorite subject. Indeed, he transcribed the world of dance using bright colors and canvases full of dynamism and movement. He observed and depicted with precision the extreme postures of the dancers who had a genuine look of connoisseur and enthusiasm . From the mythical ballets of the Paris Opera of the 40s-50s to popular regional and global dances, all of his pieces give a rare and precious testimony of the art of the mid-20th century.

The Opera paid him a deserved, post-mortem tribute.
