Jean-Pierre Urgate is a French artist born in 1950 in Bordeaux.

He studied at the School of Fine Arts of Bordeaux from 1966 to 1971.

As a counter-current of the contemporary art of his time, Jean-Pierre Urgate plunged himself completely into figuration. He mainly addresses a subject already known, in all its aspects by art history, the landscapes.

Jean -Pierre Urgate manages to stand out in this genre and depicts a world of disturbing strangeness, between intrigue and threat. He became part as well of a group of great painters such as Nicolas Poussin and Friedrich.

His sense of compositions, his great talent as a draftman and his taste for balance, give him all the keys to succeed. In order to achive this he used subjects related to the number of gold, allowing him to reach the wanted result.

The artist created the School of Pau and his work is present in the Museum of Fine Arts of Pau as well as in several international private collections.
