The paintings of Olivier Legrand are a combination of modern hyperrealistic painting, Caravaggio painting, and Dutch still life. They belong to a classical style and divert realism.
The artist draws his inspiration from the light of the 17th century and from the chiaroscure to highlight the object. With the difference that the artist does not work with skulls, fruits, or mirrors but dissects elements of our daily life: such as a carafe, a cardboard bag, a bowl ... in the same style as Marcel Duchamp' ready made, Olivier Legrand legislates objects as works of art. The question of the nature of the work of art addresses a contemporary question, while its depiction comes from Flemish pictorial art.
A real creator, Olivier Legrand creates his own colors in his studio. He crushes, dilutes and mixes them, grabbing everyday objects and detaching them from any feeling of familiarity. The dream hovers behind the still life of Olivier Legrand. This dream asks us the same questions when we wake up: where am I? The loss of benchmarks happens in front of our ordinary objects.
