Presentation

Guy Poirat was born in Québec in 1952. He studied painting and sculpture at the School of Fine Arts of Montreal and at the Emily Carr College of Art and Design in Vancouver. In 1993, he lived in France for a while, in the region of Rhône-Alpes, subsidized by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs of Québec. This support to create allowed him to participate in meetings organized by the Cité des Artistes de Francheville. He then chose to stay in France and currently lives in Lyon, where he set up his studio.

His artistic approach is dominated by the notion of assembly. Passionated by archeology, the artist wants to give life to different materials that he recuperates such as wood, paper, cardboard, plastic, metal and fabric, all kinds of supports.... his pieces show thus the slow transformation of materials, that have been collected randomly, then sorted, scraped, cut, glued and then recompesed.

Famous in France and in Canada, the artist exhibits regularly in those countries since the 80s. Several public and private institutions have called upon his talents, such as the Biennale de Dance of Lyon for which he did sets. His pieces are also part of collections at the museum of the city of Venissieux, among others.
