Didier Mencoboni

Erudit and creative, Didier Mencoboni, was born in Guingamp in 1959. He currently lives and works in Ivry-sur-Seine. He graduated from the School of Fine Arts of Quimper, and then became a resident at the Villa Medicis in Rome from 1990 to 1991, he turned towards teaching at the prestigious National Superior School of Art of Bourges.

The shadow of Klee, Matisse, Miro, Opalka or Gasiorowski are always present in his work. Mathematics is part of his rigor, all while having a close relationship with abstract art. Abstraction sketches around a concept, such is the process that composes his creation.

A painter and a space shaper, he gives shape to his own paintings ("piles, shelves, projections, silks"). In 1990, he started doing small sized paintings, which he called "etc". The artist signed his 1999th piece, a "Romantic" collection according to his own words, he composes endlessly. The Marcel Proust of contemporary art pursues this endless quest of creation "I have always been influenced by the idea of infinite and by the desire of a more ambitious project than the creation of a painting" confirms the artist. Critic Anne Kerner added: " The artist's desire of working endlessly opens new territories , new architectures, incredible projections, drawings of extreme precision; sculptures and installations that are no more than an outflow to invent a time and a space unique to painting".

His exhibitions are numerous; he obtained a scholarship for a trip to Island in 1994, and won the prize of the Pollock Krasner Foundation. He is represented and exhibited recurrently at the Eric Dupont Gallery in Paris. In addition, the artist multiplies his solo exhibitions: FRAC marseilles (in 1998), FRAC Alsace (in 2000), at the Archetype Gallery in Brussells (in 2001) and group exhibitions; in 1984 at the Museum of Modern Art of the city of Paris, At the Stadler Gallery in Paris in 1993, At the Villa Arson in Nice (In 1998), Plus Ultra Gallery in Brooklyn, Hales Gallery in London (in 2002).
